Bourbon Man Pleads Guilty to Meth Conspiracy
A Bourbon man has pleaded guilty to a methamphetamine conspiracy charge in federal court, admitting to distributing over five pounds of the highly addictive drug.
Lucas John Haslag, 31, of Bourbon, Mo., pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine between June 19, 2014, and Nov. 21, 2015. By pleading guilty, Haslag admitted to distributing approximately five pounds (2.265 kilograms) of methamphetamine.
The investigation into Haslag’s activities began in June 2014, when law enforcement officers conducted a car stop in Freeburg, Mo., and found a pound of methamphetamine, a Derringer pistol, and a drug ledger in the vehicle he was driving. Following his indictment, Haslag became a fugitive from justice, but was apprehended in October 2015 after federal agents obtained information about his actions and whereabouts.
On Nov. 9, 2015, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Haslag’s residence in Bourbon, discovering two pounds of methamphetamine, several firearms, and $22,661 in cash. Haslag has been in federal custody without bond since his arrest on Nov. 23, 2015.
Under federal statutes, Haslag is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 40 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $5 million. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. Oliver. It was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jefferson City, Mo., Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, MUSTANG (the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team And Narcotics Group), and the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group (LANEG).
Tammy Dickinson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced the guilty plea. "This case is a prime example of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat methamphetamine distribution in our communities," Dickinson said.
