Brackenridge Man Charged with Armed Robbery
A devastating crime rocked Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, when the Allegheny-Ludlum Brackenridge Federal Credit Union was robbed at gunpoint on July 10, 2019. The brazen heist netted the perpetrator a whopping $101,000 in $5 and $10 denominations.
According to a federal complaint, Thomas George, a resident of Brackenridge, is the mastermind behind the dastardly crime. The 1-count Criminal Complaint was filed in federal court, charging George with the armed robbery. The complaint was announced by United States Attorney Scott W. Brady, who stated that George made his initial appearance in federal court before Chief Magistrate Judge Cynthia Reed Eddy.
George’s bail has been set at zero, with the court detaining him pending a preliminary hearing. The eyewitness tip that led to George’s identification as the perpetrator was reportedly sparked by a potential getaway vehicle. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 25 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The FBI conducted the investigation leading to the charges in this case.
A criminal complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant may not be prosecuted unless, within 30 days, a grand jury has found probable cause to believe that the defendant is guilty of an offense.
