Bradenton Child Predator Sentenced to Life Behind Bars
A U.S. District Judge has handed down a life sentence to a 41-year-old Bradenton man for his heinous crimes of child exploitation. Roger Lee Caldwell Jr. was found guilty by a federal jury on February 8, 2024, for producing child sexual abuse material, transporting minors with intent to engage in sexual activity, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The evidence presented at trial paints a disturbing picture of Caldwell’s six-year-long abuse of two minor victims. During this period, he produced an image of one of the victims while forcing them to engage in a sex act. The image, recovered from Caldwell’s cell phone, was a chilling reminder of his depravity and was eerily linked to a uniquely designed belt he wore at the time of his arrest.
But the abuse didn’t stop there. In March 2022, Caldwell took both victims out of state, where he repeatedly sexually abused them. It was only upon their return to Florida that the victims disclosed the sexual abuse to family members and law enforcement. The evidence against Caldwell was overwhelming, from the discovery of his collection of child sexual abuse material on a computer in his home to the testimony of the victims.
The investigation into Caldwell’s crimes was a collaborative effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the Bradenton Police Department, the Palmetto Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Stacie B. Harris, Courtney Derry, Abigail King, and Department of Justice Trial Attorney Lisa Thelwell.
Caldwell’s crimes are a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in our communities. His actions have left a permanent scar on the lives of his victims, and his sentence is a testament to the justice system’s commitment to protecting the vulnerable. As a society, we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of those who prey on the innocent.
The sentencing of Roger Lee Caldwell Jr. is a significant victory for justice, but it is just one step in the long and arduous process of healing for the victims and their families.
