Koby Don Williams, Attempted Online Enticement of a Minor, Washington 2022

Spokane, Washington – In a shocking display of betrayal of trust, a former law enforcement officer has been found guilty of attempting to lure a 13-year-old girl for sex online.

49-year-old Koby Don Williams, a former federal law enforcement officer, was convicted on one count of Attempted Online Enticement of a Minor following a trial that began on May 13, 2024. The verdict was delivered on May 14, 2024, by a jury in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.

The evidence presented in court revealed that on July 23, 2022, Williams responded to a Craigslist ad as part of an undercover operation by law enforcement to identify individuals who target minors for sex. Over the next three days, Williams engaged in a text conversation with a 13-year-old girl, referred to as “Rebecca,” discussing her age, rates for sex acts, and arrangements to meet at a hotel.

On July 26, 2022, Williams arrived at the Quality Inn in Othello, Washington, to meet “Rebecca,” but was instead arrested by law enforcement. A search of his vehicle and person yielded Williams’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement badge, two bottles of prescription medication, and $4,075 in cash.

U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref applauded the conviction, stating, “No one is above the law, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to vigorously prosecuting those who target the most vulnerable members of our community.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Wick, who tried the case, added, “Mr. Williams’s conduct stands in stark contrast to the trust we place in federal law enforcement to keep Eastern Washington communities safe and strong.”

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case was investigated by the FBI, DHS/OIG, and the Othello Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Wick.

Williams’s sentencing is set for August 14, 2024. His conviction serves as a stark reminder that those who exploit children will be held accountable for their actions.

This case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to protect children from predators like Williams. The conviction also underscores the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to upholding the integrity of its mission to protect and serve the community.
