A 29-year-old musician from Gainesville, Florida has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for inducing and enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.
Ryan David Burd, a drummer for the Dallas Brass musical ensemble, was sentenced on December 3, 2014 for one count of knowingly attempting to persuade, induce and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
The crime was committed in February 2014, when Burd made arrangements to have sex with a 14-year-old girl at her home after meeting her during a fundraising concert in Gainesville. The girl’s parents had contacted law enforcement to report Burd’s inappropriate sexual advances.
The investigation was led by agencies with the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, including the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the federal government in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Williams. This case is an example of the efforts made by law enforcement to protect children from online predators.
