Matthew Gamel Accused of Recording Child Pornography in Pevely MO
A 36-year-old man from Pevely, Missouri has been accused of recording his sexual abuse of a minor and producing child pornography. Matthew Gamel was arrested and appeared in federal court in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday.
The indictment, which was handed down on November 8, accuses Gamel of coercing a minor into producing child pornography between January 1, 2021, and February 22, 2023, and receiving child pornography between January 1, 2021, and August 1, 2023.
A motion filed in court alleges that Gamel recorded his sexual abuse of the minor when she was under the age of 14. The abuse is said to have occurred between 2021 and 2023.
Gamel pleaded not guilty to the charges in court on Tuesday. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a minor and up to 20 years for the receipt of child pornography.
The case was investigated by the Pevely Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Hayes is prosecuting the case.
The charges are part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and to identify and rescue victims.
Gamel’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and abuse. It highlights the need for continued vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to protect children from predators like Gamel.
