A Portland, Maine, man is headed to federal prison for distributing and possessing thousands of images and videos of child sex abuse material. Derren Wood-Peterson, 35, made a plea deal on October 2, 2025, and was sentenced to 7 years behind bars, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
According to court records, in December 2024, the FBI executed a search warrant at Wood-Peterson’s residence, seizing two cell phones and finding the disturbing content. He admitted to investigators that he had accessed, viewed, and distributed the child porn over the internet, using the Telegram Messenger app.
Prosecutors say Wood-Peterson paid for a link associated with the child sex abuse material using the Cash App. Forensic analysis revealed multiple acts of distribution, causing further outrage.
Wood-Peterson was ordered to pay $56,500 in restitution to the victims whose images he possessed. This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sex abuse.
