Sexual assault continues to ravage Maine communities, leaving scars that last a lifetime. The crimes are brutal and calculated, and the perpetrators are often cunning and manipulative.
But in Fiscal Year 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) awarded a whopping $9,635,137 to several organizations in Maine to combat the scourge of sexual assault, including the Family Violence Project, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, and the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine is renewing its commitment to pursuing justice for these heinous crimes, collaborating with local law enforcement to safeguard victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
United States Attorney Andrew B. Benson vowed to do his part, saying, ‘Sexual assault has impacts that can reverberate through an entire community. These crimes leave lasting scars, and, as federal prosecutors, we have a responsibility to the citizens of Maine to pursue justice.’
