A Guatemalan national with a dark past was caught and sentenced in Springfield, Missouri. Miguel Guzman-Guerra, 38, known to police as Joel Montoya Ortiz, re-entered the country after being convicted of a sex offense. He was driving a car with a revoked license and was a registered sex offender on the lam.
Guzman-Guerra was pulled over by police in Carthage, Missouri, on January 23, 2025. ICE agents confirmed he was an illegal immigrant who had been deported in 2014.
His crimes caught up with him. Guzman-Guerra was sentenced to 24 months in prison and will be deported to Guatemala after serving his time.
This case was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide anti-immigration and anti-cartel initiative.
