A 37-year-old Kansas City woman has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for her role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that left a woman dead in 2021. Idella Gardner was convicted of using a communication facility to facilitate a drug trafficking offense and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Between January 2019 and July 2022, Gardner worked as an armed drug dealer, taking part in at least 40 cocaine transactions with members of a street gang and other co-conspirators. She was arrested on March 9, 2022, and found with cocaine, cell phones, firearm magazines, and live ammunition.
Prosecutors also presented evidence that Gardner was involved in a 2021 homicide, where she discharged a firearm into an occupied apartment, striking an innocent woman in the head. The woman, identified as A.O., died two days later from her injuries.
Gardner pleaded guilty to the charges on October 9, 2024, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David Kays.
