Tampa, FL – Bradenton’s David Earl Johnson (36) has been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for distributing fentanyl that led to a tragic death. The charges against Johnson include distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and additional counts of distributing fentanyl.
In a grim turn of events, on January 11, 2017, Johnson’s actions resulted in the death of an individual identified as ‘K.H.’
The severity of Johnson’s crime is underscored by the potential sentences he faces. If convicted on the first charge, he could spend up to life in federal prison. The second offense carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment.
According to the indictment, the U.S. government also intends to forfeit any assets Johnson allegedly obtained from his criminal activities.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation known as ‘Hot Batch.’ The OCDETF program’s mission is to dismantle major drug trafficking organizations and those responsible for the nation’s drug supply. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the DEA, conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Dan Baeza will be handling the prosecution.
It is crucial to note that an indictment merely indicates a formal charge of violating federal criminal laws. Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
