A Dubach man has been sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison for his role in a firearms and drug trafficking operation in Louisiana. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Brandon Khesahn Cooper, 50, of Dubach, was found guilty of possession of firearms by a convicted felon and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Cooper was arrested on October 19, 2021, after a search warrant was executed at his residence. Deputies with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office found 12 grams of methamphetamine, a Charter Arms .38 revolver, and a .410 gauge CBC shotgun in Cooper’s bedroom. The search also turned up packaging material consistent with distribution of illegal substances.
Cooper was interviewed by law enforcement agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) after being read his Miranda rights. He admitted to selling drugs and purchasing the revolver, despite being a convicted felon and knowing he was prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) determined that the revolver and shotgun were both manufactured outside of the state of Louisiana and had traveled in interstate commerce.
The case was investigated by the DEA, ATF, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert F. Moody.
Cooper will serve a total of 138 months (11 years, 6 months) in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that this case is part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals and working in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement to develop effective strategies to reduce violent crime.
