Pittsburgh Man Pleads Guilty to Heroin Trafficking Charge

PITTSBURGH – Brandon L. Johnson, a 32-year-old resident of Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

Johnson, who pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak, faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of $2,000,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and Johnson’s prior criminal history, if any.

In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that in November 2011, Johnson conspired with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on November 13, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. The court will determine the final sentence at that time.

Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that led to Johnson’s prosecution.

Johnson’s case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat heroin trafficking in the Pittsburgh area. The city has seen a significant increase in heroin-related overdoses and deaths in recent years, and law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to disrupt the supply chain and bring those responsible to justice.

The federal government will continue to prioritize the prosecution of individuals involved in heroin trafficking, and we will work closely with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that those who engage in this activity are held accountable for their actions.
