MUSKOGEE, OK – Brandon Lee Workman, 37, of Stilwell, Oklahoma, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 72 months – six years – for illegally possessing both a firearm and ammunition. The sentence, handed down Friday, stems from a May 9th incident that exposed Workman as a prohibited person under federal law.
According to investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Workman was found to be in possession of a revolver and .38 Special ammunition despite a prior felony conviction. That conviction, for a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, automatically disqualified him from legally owning either weapon.
The bust unfolded when law enforcement responded to an emergency call. Details of the initial emergency call haven’t been released, but the responding officers quickly discovered the illegal weapons in Workman’s possession. He subsequently pleaded guilty on August 10, 2022, to one count of possessing a firearm after a felony conviction and one count of possessing ammunition after a felony conviction.
Senior U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel, presiding over the hearing in Muskogee, delivered the concurrent 72-month sentences. The judge made it clear Workman’s time will be served without the possibility of parole. He’s currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshal, awaiting transfer to a designated Bureau of Prisons facility.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zachary Parsons and Kevin Gross prosecuted the case, highlighting the government’s commitment to cracking down on individuals who illegally possess firearms. The ATF’s Dallas Field Division played a key role in the investigation, working alongside local law enforcement to build the case against Workman.
This case is a stark reminder that federal firearms laws are strictly enforced. Convicted felons attempting to arm themselves face significant consequences, and the ATF, in coordination with local agencies, will continue to pursue these cases aggressively. The six-year sentence sends a clear message: illegal gun possession won’t be tolerated in Eastern Oklahoma.
