MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Another street thug off the streets, folks. Gabriel Lee Williams, II, a/k/a Chi-Chi, 26, of Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, is headed to federal prison for 140 months – that’s over eleven years – after pleading guilty to being a Felon in Possession of Firearm. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
This wasn’t a first offense. Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), working alongside the Okmulgee Police Department, uncovered that Williams was packing heat – a 9mm handgun and a .40 caliber handgun – despite already having a criminal record that disqualified him from owning firearms. The bust went down on April 27, 2024, and the evidence quickly sealed his fate. He entered a guilty plea on January 13, 2025.
The feds aren’t shy about connecting this case to broader efforts. This is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that’s supposed to bring law enforcement and communities together to tackle violent crime. Sounds good on paper, but we’ll see if it actually makes a dent in the real world. The Department of Justice launched a “strengthened” PSN initiative back in May 2021, focusing on trust-building, community programs, and, of course, heavy-handed enforcement.
Williams isn’t going anywhere soon. He’s currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, awaiting transfer to a Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his non-paroleable sentence. That means no early release, no good behavior discounts – he’s doing the full 140 months. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Dean Burris handled the prosecution, ensuring Williams faced the maximum penalty for his actions.
The details are grimly familiar: a repeat offender, illegally armed, and now facing a lengthy prison term. While this conviction might offer temporary relief to the citizens of Okmulgee County, it’s a band-aid on a much larger wound. The real question is: what’s being done to prevent individuals like Williams from picking up a gun in the first place?
