A Red Lake man has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old minor.

Brandon Scott Cloud, 36, was sentenced yesterday by Senior Judge Michael J. Davis in United States District Court in Minneapolis, Minn., for the crime, which occurred on August 11, 2016, within the exterior boundaries of the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

According to court documents, Cloud sexually assaulted the minor victim while she was sleeping at his residence. The victim, who was visiting a family member at Cloud’s home, contacted her mother after the assault, who then notified the Red Lake Police Department.

The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Red Lake Police Department and the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Clifford B. Wardlaw prosecuted the case.

Cloud was charged via criminal information on July 21, 2017, and pleaded guilty on September 21, 2017. He was sentenced to 60 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
