Branford Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges
A 42-year-old Branford man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, according to court documents. Michael Holm, a registered sex offender, admitted to knowingly possessing images and videos of child abuse on his iPhone and online Dropbox account from 2014 to 2021.
According to court records, Holm used various websites and mobile applications to distribute child pornography to others, often in exchange for other child abuse content. A review of his iPhone and online accounts revealed that he possessed at least 142 unique image files and 118 unique video files of child pornography, including images and videos of the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers.
Holm’s guilty plea comes despite being on federal supervised release for a prior child pornography offense. In 2011, he was sentenced to three months of imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release for possession of child pornography.
As a result of his prior conviction, Holm is a registered sex offender on the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry. He was arrested on a federal criminal complaint in May 2021 and has been detained since.
Holm faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years. His sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2021.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Neeraj N. Patel is prosecuting the case, which is part of the U.S. government’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation. If you suspect child exploitation, you can report it to the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com.
