COLUMBUS, Ohio — Brian M. Sze, a 36-year-old former music instructor from Seattle, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 25 years in prison for the production of child pornography.
United States Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman, Special Agent in Charge Marlon V. Miller of HSI, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott, Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs, and members of the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force announced the sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley.
The investigation into Sze commenced in July 2015 following an ICAC tip that he was engaging in sexually suggestive conversations with a minor. The probe revealed Sze had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact and recorded the child involved in sexual activities.
‘The defendant, a trusted teacher, has caused irreparable harm to the victim’s understanding of healthy relationships,’ Glassman stated. ‘Today’s sentence reflects the lifelong damage his actions have wrought upon the child.’ Sze pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography in March.
The Franklin County ICAC Task Force, a multi-agency endeavor combating computer-facilitated crimes against children, comprises agencies such as the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio ICAC, Grove City Police Department, Columbus Police Department, and more. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Glassman commended the ICAC Task Force for their collaborative efforts and Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather A. Hill for her representation of the United States in this case.
