WEST PALM BEACH – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, a Boca Raton man has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in accessing and possessing child pornography.
Brian Sigouin, 33, was sentenced on one count of receipt of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography. Sigouin must also pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $36,000.
Sigouin’s guilty plea was entered on January 2, 2020, and he admitted to accessing peer-to-peer networks from 2016 through 2018 to obtain images and videos of child pornography. The disturbing content included pre-pubescent children engaged in forced sexual acts.
The investigation into Sigouin’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the assistance of the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force. U.S. Attorney Ariana Fajardo Orshan commended the investigation efforts of the FBI, stating that they played a crucial role in bringing Sigouin to justice.
Sigouin’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Schiller as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The case against Sigouin serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes. The sentence handed down to Sigouin is a significant step towards justice for the victims and their families.
