A 43-year-old registered sex offender from Butler County, Ohio, has been indicted for committing heinous child sex crimes against a 10-year-old girl. Adam Kendel allegedly crossed state lines from Ohio to Kentucky to engage in sexual conduct with the minor on February 28. The abuse is believed to have occurred from August 2025 to March 2026, with Kendel coercing and enticing the child to engage in sexual activity and produce child pornography.
Kendel was arrested on related local charges in April and was taken into federal custody on August 12. He is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court on August 18 for a detention hearing. The charges against him include aggravated sexual abuse, coercion, and enticement, as well as committing new sex crimes while registered as a sex offender.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and involved the Ashland, Kentucky, and Fairfield Township police departments. If convicted, Kendel faces a minimum of 30 years and up to life in prison for the aggravated sexual abuse charge, as well as a mandatory 10-year prison sentence for committing the crimes while registered as a sex offender.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio is prosecuting the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Kyle J. Healey and Ryan A. Keefe representing the government.
