Orlando, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, Alvis Alexander Briceno-Yajures, a 24-year-old Venezuelan national, has been sentenced to eight years and nine months in federal prison. The sentence stems from his unlawful possession of a firearm used in multiple armed robberies.
Briceno-Yajures pleaded guilty on May 8, 2025, after being caught in the act of robbing a victim at gunpoint in a Daytona Beach motel room. His brutal behavior escalated as he dragged the victim down stairs and attempted to force her into a vehicle with accomplices before being thwarted by a bystander.
The nightmare didn’t end there. Within hours, Briceno-Yajures and his accomplices targeted another victim at an Holly Hill apartment complex, taking her car at gunpoint. Their spree came to an abrupt end when Briceno-Yajures was arrested by Daytona Beach Police Department officers who found a loaded firearm concealed in the defendant’s underwear.
This case was a collaborative effort between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ATF, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Daytona Beach Police Department, and Holly Hill Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Del Mastro led the prosecution.
Briceno-Yajures’ sentence is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence across communities. Launched in 2021, PSN focuses on fostering trust, supporting community organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes to ensure safer neighborhoods.
The PSN strategy has been instrumental in tackling violent crime, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
