Bridgeport’s notorious drug dealer, known as ‘C-Lows,’ has been swept up in a federal investigation after being charged with distributing the heroin that led to a deadly overdose in Monroe. According to U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly for the District of Connecticut, CAREEM BENTLEY, 33, was arrested today on a federal criminal complaint.
The charge stems from an incident on November 23, 2016, where Monroe Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence in Monroe to find an unresponsive 37-year-old male lying on the floor. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities seized his cellphone, multiple folds of suspected heroin, and other evidence that pointed towards BENTLEY as the supplier.
BENTLEY appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah A. L. Merriam in New Haven and was ordered detained without bail. The complaint against him includes possession with intent to distribute, distribution of heroin, and conspiracy to distribute narcotics, all carrying a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
U.S. Attorney Daly emphasized that the charges are merely allegations and that BENTLEY is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, which includes participants from several local police departments and the Connecticut State Police.
