Daniel Oliver, Fentanyl Distribution, Connecticut 2024

Bridgeport’s notorious drug dealer, Daniel Oliver, alias ‘Chase,’ has been handed a 20-month federal prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, for his role in the tragic overdose death of a 23-year-old woman. United States Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery announced the severe punishment for Oliver, who was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the young woman met her fate on April 23, 2020, when she was discovered unconscious in her Bronx residence. The victim’s death was attributed to acute fentanyl intoxication, with Oliver having sold her the lethal dose just hours before. Despite knowing that she hadn’t used opioids for some time, Oliver reportedly warned her of the drug’s heightened danger during a period of sobriety. He also deleted his Facebook account, which he had used to communicate with the victim.

In January 2021, Bridgeport Police apprehended Oliver after a controlled purchase of fentanyl and heroin from him. A subsequent search of his residence yielded 140 folds containing a mixture of the two substances along with cocaine.

Oliver’s federal arrest came on September 1, 2022. He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of a controlled substance in December 2023. Judge Williams’ decision on April 19, 2024, confirmed that Oliver was responsible for the fentanyl sale that led to the overdose death.

Since his federal arrest, Oliver has remained detained, awaiting his fate. The investigation into this case was a collaborative effort between the New York City Police Department, Bridgeport Police, and various DEA and local law enforcement agencies.

The prosecution of Oliver was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Ruff.
