John Edward Desalome, 31, of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 24 months for possession of material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. The sentence, handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer, marks the end of a federal prosecution rooted in disturbing digital evidence collected from a peer-to-peer network.
Desalome was found to have possessed approximately 143 videos of child sexual abuse on November 23, 2016, many involving children under the age of 12. The graphic files were stored and shared using BitTorrent, a file-sharing platform increasingly exploited by offenders to distribute illegal content. Federal investigators identified Desalome through digital footprints tied directly to the downloading and sharing of known child exploitation material.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch, who presented evidence showing Desalome not only accessed but actively participated in the distribution chain of these vile materials. Possession of child pornography is a federal felony, and the volume and nature of the content significantly influenced the sentencing outcome.
Following his release from prison, Desalome will face 10 years of supervised release, during which he will be monitored for compliance with strict conditions, including restrictions on internet use and mandatory registration as a sex offender. Violations during this period could land him back behind bars with no second chances.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which traced Desalome’s activity through forensic digital analysis. U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady praised the FBI’s persistence, calling the conviction a critical win in the ongoing battle to dismantle networks that traffic in child abuse imagery.
This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. The program unites federal, state, and local agencies to identify offenders, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators like Desalome to justice. For more information, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
