New Haven Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Pornography
A New Haven man has been sentenced to a decade in prison for his role in a child pornography case that left a community shaken. Edward Walker, 50, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford yesterday.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Walker made two cell phone videos of himself engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old girl who was a runaway from foster care and dependent on Walker for housing, food, and other necessities. The disturbing acts took place in June and July 2019.
Walker pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on April 12, 2023. However, this was not his first conviction for a sex-related crime. He is currently serving a 25-year federal sentence for sex trafficking and will serve the 10-year sentence concurrently with his existing sentence.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Angel M. Krull and Shan Patel prosecuted it. This case is part of the U.S. government’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which aims to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide effort that seeks to prevent, identify, and prosecute cases of child abuse and exploitation. The initiative includes federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as non-profit organizations and community groups.
