Torrington Man Pleads Guilty to Child Exploitation Offense
A 22-year-old man from Torrington, Connecticut, has pleaded guilty to child exploitation charges. Christopher Jesus Constanzo was arrested in December 2021 after a series of disturbing incidents involving three minors.
According to court documents, Constanzo met a 16-year-old girl at Stillwater Pond State Park in Torrington on the night of December 1, 2021. He then sexually assaulted her, forced her into the trunk of her car, and began driving. The victim reported that she was restrained with a shoelace and was removed from the trunk and assaulted again at some point during the night.
Constanzo also used SnapChat to coerce a 16-year-old female to go to an abandoned warehouse in Torrington to record herself having sex with him. He posed as two fictitious individuals on SnapChat and threatened to kill the minor victim and her boyfriend if she did not comply. At the warehouse, Constanzo sexually assaulted the minor victim at knifepoint.
In addition, Constanzo used his iPhone to record sexually explicit Facetime videos of a 17-year-old female in July 2021.
Constanzo pleaded guilty to production of child pornography and admitted to his conduct against all three victims. He faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 30 years. Constanzo has been detained since his arrest.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nancy V. Gifford and Neeraj N. Patel. This prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, which aims to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Constanzo is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson on May 7, 2024. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Vermont State Police, and the Torrington Police Department.
