Joseph Lamica, Receiving Child Pornography, New York 2022

A 26-year-old Brighton man, Joseph Lamica, has been sentenced to 168 months in prison for his role in a child pornography case.

Lamica, who was convicted of receiving child pornography, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. He will also serve 40 months of supervised release after his prison term.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, Lamica was a babysitter who advertised his services on Care.com and Craigslist.com. A family he was working for discovered that he was engaging in inappropriate behavior with their nine-year-old child and terminated his babysitting contract.

Thereafter, Lamica attempted to approach the child at school, prompting an investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies obtained a search warrant and searched Lamica’s residence, finding materials and notebooks with writings expressing his interest in young children.

Another search warrant was obtained for Lamica’s digital media hardware, which contained images of child pornography and a video of another minor he babysat in 2014. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Rochester Police Department, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations.

Lamica’s case highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting our children from predators. The community should be commended for their role in bringing this individual to justice.
