BRONX, NY – In a chilling reminder of the city’s deadly underbelly, federal authorities have charged 42-year-old Bronx resident Bruce Morris, aka ‘G,’ with murder through the use of a firearm and conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine in connection with the 2016 murder of Jerome Jemison.
According to the indictment, Morris shot and killed Jemison on August 11, 2016, in the Bronx as part of an eight-year-long crack cocaine distribution conspiracy. The charges carry a statutory maximum sentence of death or life in prison, as well as a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison for the narcotics conspiracy charge.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams praised the investigative work of the FBI and NYPD, saying, ‘Thanks to the hard work of the prosecutors in this Office and our law enforcement partners at the NYPD and FBI, Morris will finally be held to account for this heinous crime.’
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Smith echoed Williams’ sentiments, stating, ‘Firearms and illegal narcotics continue to infiltrate and plague our city, posing a grave danger to New Yorkers.’
NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban added, ‘Gun violence goes hand-in-hand with the illicit drug trade, and today’s charges show the tragic consequences of that reality.’
As alleged in the indictment, Morris’ actions were part of a larger conspiracy that involved the distribution of crack cocaine in the Bronx. The case is being handled by the Office’s Narcotics Unit, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Weinberg, Camille L. Fletcher, and Jeffrey W. Coyle leading the prosecution.
The charges against Morris are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. His arraignment is scheduled for today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stewart D. Aaron.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of gang violence and the importance of law enforcement efforts to disrupt and dismantle these organizations. As the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of the 2016 murder, the charges against Morris offer a glimmer of hope for justice and closure for the victim’s family.
With the unsealing of the indictment, Morris’ fate now hangs in the balance as he faces the possibility of a lifetime behind bars for his alleged crimes.
