William Gonzalez, 56, of the Bronx, New York, stood before federal prosecutors Tuesday and admitted to funneling at least 5 kilograms of cocaine into upstate networks — a high-stakes drug operation that ran through Saratoga Springs parking lots and cash-filled handoffs.
Gonzalez pled guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, a charge carrying a mandatory minimum of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison. The plea, announced by U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and DEA Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan, seals his role in a sprawling narcotics pipeline active between August 2018 and September 2019.
According to court documents, Gonzalez personally delivered multi-kilo shipments to a co-conspirator in Saratoga Springs, exchanging cocaine for cash in discreet, pre-arranged meetings. He admitted knowing the drugs would be further distributed across regional markets, amplifying the reach of his illicit supply chain. On September 25, 2019, he sold exactly 1 kilogram of cocaine in one such exchange.
Sentencing is set for January 12, 2021, before Chief U.S. District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby. In addition to facing decades behind bars, Gonzalez agreed to forfeit all proceeds tied to his criminal activity. He also risks a post-imprisonment supervised release term of no less than 5 years — or for the rest of his life.
The case has already ensnared others. On July 13, 2020, Nestor Cordero-Hernandez was sentenced to 87 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. Victor Aguero Vasquez was indicted March 12, 2020, on conspiracy and distribution charges. April Allen was charged November 22, 2019, with possession with intent to distribute cocaine. All remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashlyn Miranda. Authorities say the takedown disrupts a key artery in a broader narcotics network feeding addiction and violence in New York’s capital region and beyond.
