Brooklyn’s streets have once again felt the grim touch of violence as Stanley Elianor, a member of the Folk Nation Street gang, was nabbed today for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The arrest stems from an indictment returned on August 27, 2020, charging Elianor with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after his previous conviction for a crime punishable by over one year imprisonment.
Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Seth D. DuCharme, along with FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney, Jr., and NYPD Commissioner Dermot F. Shea, announced the arrest. ‘This case tragically demonstrates the danger posed by repeat offenders with firearms,’ said DuCharme.
‘No one should fear for their life in a crowd, only to have it ended by a gang member’s stray bullet,’ Sweeney emphasized. The FBI is urging communities to come forward with information about recent shootings, offering a hotline at 212-384-5000 for those who wish to assist.
Elianor was involved in a shootout on September 7, 2015, during the J’ouvert cultural festival in Crown Heights. Carey Gabay, an aide to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, was tragically struck by a stray bullet and succumbed to his injuries on September 15, 2015. The .45 caliber Masterpiece Arms handgun with a large capacity magazine and 27 rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.
Assistant United States Attorney Nadia E. Moore is handling the prosecution for the Office’s Organized Crime and Gangs Section. Elianor faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
