Boston, MA – A Brooklyn man is heading back behind bars for his starring role in a cocaine trafficking operation that peddled over 50 kilograms of the deadly drug from New York to Boston.

Dinelson Hernandez-Rodriguez, a 30-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced to 68 months in federal prison for his involvement in the massive cocaine trafficking ring. In addition to his prison time, Hernandez-Rodriguez will also have to serve three years of supervised release after his stint behind bars.

The sentencing comes after a February 2024 jury verdict found Hernandez-Rodriguez guilty of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. The investigation into the trafficking ring began in October 2019, with authorities intercepting communications that established a connection between the Boston/Taunton DTO and suppliers in New York.

According to court documents, Hernandez-Rodriguez was involved in transporting kilograms of cocaine from New York to Hyde Park in August 2020. He was accompanied by a co-conspirator who also made a similar transport just one day prior. The total amount of cocaine transported by Hernandez-Rodriguez and his co-conspirator was over 50 kilograms, with the intended destination being the Boston area.

Things took a turn for the worse for Hernandez-Rodriguez when he attempted to transport $240,240 in drug proceeds back to New York, but was intercepted by law enforcement. The money was hidden in a trap compartment inside his car, a Honda Pilot.

Hernandez-Rodriguez is the ninth defendant to be convicted in this case, either by guilty plea or following a jury trial. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the DOJ USAO, DEA, Connecticut State Police, and local police departments in Boston, Taunton, and Stratford, Connecticut.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division, made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel R. Feldman and K. Nathaniel Yeager of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit are prosecuting the case.

The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative, a multi-agency task force that works together to disrupt and dismantle significant drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations.
