Bruce Anthony Garcia, Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, California 2023

A Sacramento man has been sentenced to 19 years and seven months in prison for attempting to sexually exploit a minor under his care, according to a recent court ruling.

Bruce Anthony Garcia, 43, of Sacramento, was found guilty of taking hidden video recordings of the victim between August 2, 2017, and September 1, 2019. The recordings captured the victim in various stages of undress, using the toilet or shower, or changing in a bedroom or the living room of the apartment they shared.

When confronted, Garcia admitted to intentionally taking the images and videos, stating that his intent was sexual and that he had a general interest in children. He described how he would record the victim live, taking screenshots and manipulating the images to focus on the victim’s genitals and pubic area.

The investigation, led by the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, uncovered thousands of images and videos of the victim, as well as additional child sexual abuse material. This included images and videos showing the sexual abuse of toddlers, some of which depicted violence against the victims.

Garcia’s collection also included 110 series of known victims of child sexual abuse. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dhruv M. Sharma is prosecuting the case.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly under Garcia’s care during the time the recordings were made. The case serves as a stark reminder of the threat of child predators and the importance of protecting vulnerable victims.
