Majestic Byington, Assaulting a Federal Officer, SD 2016

In a stunning turn of events, Majestic Byington, a 23-year-old resident of Lower Brule, South Dakota, has pled guilty to Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer. The charges stem from an incident that unfolded on April 15, 2016, when the tranquility of the community was shattered by Byington’s belligerent actions against an FBI Special Agent.

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that Byington faced justice in a court of law, where she was sentenced to 12 months in custody, followed by another 12 months of supervised release. Additionally, she was ordered to pay $25 into the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of her sentence.

The incident began when an FBI Special Agent responded to a call for assistance for an uncooperative female from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Upon locating Byington hiding under a bed, the agent encountered a highly resistant and aggressive individual. Byington’s defiance reached new heights as she refused to stand up, hurling insults at law enforcement personnel before being physically carried outside.

Her antics did not end there; Byington spat three times through the cage area at the FBI Special Agent, with her spittle landing on his head, neck, and shoulder. The grotesque behavior was captured by video, leaving little room for ambiguity regarding the severity of her actions.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency, conducted a thorough investigation into the incident. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges took the case to court, ensuring that justice was served. In a separate development, Byington was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to serve her sentence concurrently with a state court sentence for assaulting an officer.

This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their daily duties and underscores the need for swift justice for those who would abuse their power or threaten the safety of our communities.
