William Wayne Anderson, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Oklahoma 2024

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – William Wayne Anderson, a/k/a “Buffalo,” 40, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, is staring down a lengthy federal prison sentence after admitting to running meth and packing heat. Anderson pleaded guilty this week to two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and one count of Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition.

The charges stem from incidents in late 2018 and early 2019. According to court documents, Anderson knowingly possessed methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it on or around November 9, 2018, and again on February 17, 2019, both within the Eastern District of Oklahoma. This isn’t a simple possession case; prosecutors are alleging a clear intent to push the highly addictive drug into the community.

Adding to the severity of the situation, Anderson was also found to be illegally carrying a firearm and ammunition. As a convicted felon – someone already punished with imprisonment for over a year – he’s prohibited from possessing either. The indictment states the firearm had moved across state lines, triggering federal jurisdiction.

The bust was a joint effort by the Tahlequah Police Department, the District 27 Drug Task Force, and the ever-present Federal Bureau of Investigation. These agencies have been steadily chipping away at the drug trade in eastern Oklahoma, and this guilty plea represents another win, however small, in the ongoing war.

Each count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years behind bars. If prosecutors can prove Anderson has a prior final felony drug conviction, that sentence jumps to a maximum of 30 years. He also faces a potential $1,000,000.00 fine. The firearm charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $250,000.00 fine.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven P. Shreder accepted the plea and has ordered a presentence investigation report to gather information for sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Jarrod Leaman is prosecuting the case. Anderson’s sentencing date has not yet been set, but with the combined potential penalties, he’s likely looking at a very long stretch in a federal penitentiary. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case.
