Brighton, NY – Kenneth Dykes, a 50-year-old Buffalo resident, has been sentenced to 175 months in prison for his role in a series of bank robberies that shook the Western New York community. The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Buffalo Police Department, the Amherst Police Department, and the Village of Blasdell Police Department.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, Dykes robbed three separate locations of M&T Bank between January 14 and 20, 2015. The defendant verbally demanded money from tellers at each location, twice leading them to believe he had a firearm. The robberies occurred on Seneca Street in Buffalo, Lake Avenue in Blasdell, and Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst.

The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Adam S. Cohen, Special Agent in Charge, uncovered evidence that linked Dykes to the crimes. The Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda, the Amherst Police Department, under the direction of Chief John Askey, and the Village of Blasdell Police Department, under the direction of Lieutenant Joseph Gramaglia, also played key roles in the case.

Dykes’ sentencing marks the culmination of a lengthy investigation that brought a notorious bank robber to justice. The 175-month sentence is a significant blow to the defendant, who has a prior conviction for bank robbery dating back to 2006.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community policing and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. The successful investigation and prosecution of Dykes’ crimes is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the investigators and prosecutors involved.

As U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. noted, the sentencing of Kenneth Dykes is a victory for the people of Western New York. ‘Today’s sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement partners and the prosecutors in my office who worked tirelessly to bring this defendant to justice.’
