Elias Figueroa, Heroin Possession with Intent to Distribute, New York 2014

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a chilling display of justice, Elias Figueroa, 47, was today sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin. The sentence by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo sends a stark message to the streets of Buffalo.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura A. Higgins, Figueroa was apprehended during a February 26, 2014 raid on his residence at West Delavan Avenue. Authorities recovered an alarming amount of heroin, drug packaging paraphernalia, and $4,000 in cash, sealing the fate of the defendant.

The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals, with Figueroa being the third to face sentencing. Two other defendants, Julio Sanchez and Tomas Figueroa, were also apprehended at the scene, while Steven Martinez and Jeffrey Coleman were arrested on the same day but their charges remain pending.

This sentencing is a direct outcome of a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division. The relentless pursuit of drug traffickers has once again brought justice to the streets of Buffalo.

As Figueroa’s sentence dawns on the city, law enforcement continues its fight against heroin distribution that is fueling an epidemic in Buffalo and beyond. With this conviction, the DEA reinforces its commitment to tackling the drug crisis head-on.
