Damar Currie, 42, of Buffalo, NY, is headed to federal prison for 54 months after being convicted on charges of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of cocaine. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, marks the end of a years-long federal case targeting Currie’s role in a local narcotics operation.
Between December 10, 2014, and March 31, 2015, Currie engaged in repeated drug transactions, selling cocaine for cash on at least three documented occasions. Federal prosecutors say the operation was neither impulsive nor isolated—it was systematic, with Currie using two Buffalo residences—55 Krupp Avenue and 24 Palos Place—as hubs for storing, manufacturing, and distributing both powdered cocaine and crack cocaine.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patricia Astorga and Timothy C. Lynch, who prosecuted the case, laid out evidence tying Currie directly to the distribution chain. The purchases were facilitated through controlled buys, with law enforcement documenting exchanges that built a damning paper trail leading straight to the defendant.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin P. Lyons. Agents used surveillance, informant testimony, and forensic analysis of the properties to establish Currie’s control over the drug operation, painting a picture of a man entrenched in the street-level mechanics of the city’s drug trade.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., emphasized the federal crackdown on persistent drug offenders. “This sentence sends a clear message,” Kennedy said in a statement. “Individuals who turn neighborhoods into drug zones will face serious federal time.” The 54-month sentence reflects both the quantity of drugs involved and the use of multiple properties for criminal activity.
Currie will begin serving his prison term immediately, followed by a period of supervised release. Federal authorities say cases like this remain a priority in Western New York, where drug-related violence and addiction continue to strain communities.
