Alfredo Alvarez-Martinez, Heroin Trafficking, New York 2024

A 26-year-old Buffalo man has been sentenced to 123 months in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking operation.

Alfredo Alvarez-Martinez was convicted of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.

The sentencing comes after a lengthy investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas S. Duszkiewicz, who handled the case, law enforcement officers recovered three firearms during the execution of a search warrant at Alvarez-Martinez’s residence on April 17, 2012. The firearms included a .45 caliber pistol, a .22 caliber pistol, and a .25 caliber pistol.

In addition to the firearms, officers also seized a quantity of heroin, drug packaging materials, and $10,900 in U.S. currency.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the sentence after Alvarez-Martinez pleaded guilty to the charges.

This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of heroin trafficking and the importance of our law enforcement agencies working to take down these operations.
