BUFFALO, N.Y. – A member of the notorious 10th Street Gang has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for his role in distributing crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana on the West Side of Buffalo.
Ben Medina, 25, of Buffalo, was sentenced to 46 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara after being convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Tripi, Medina was a key player in the 10th Street Gang’s illicit narcotics operation, which began in 2004 and continued until July 2010.
Medina and his fellow gang members and associates distributed the illegal narcotics on the West Side of Buffalo, bringing fear and chaos to the community.
Medina’s sentencing brings the total number of 10th Street Gang members and associates convicted in connection with the investigation to 26, a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies involved.
The investigation, which began in 2009, was a collaborative effort between the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Michael Cerretto, the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Brian P. Boetig.
The sentencing of Medina serves as a reminder that those involved in organized crime will be held accountable for their actions and will face the full force of the law.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement agencies have worked tirelessly to dismantle the 10th Street Gang’s operations and bring justice to the victims of their crimes.
