LOS ANGELES — Dong Hwan Kim, a 27-year-old man from Downey, CA, has been arrested for federal child pornography possession charges. The suspect is believed to be a member of the 764 Nihilist Violent Extremist Group. Kim’s initial appearance is scheduled today in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
According to the complaint, Kim is accused of enthralling minor females to produce and send sexual images between 2022 and the present. He allegedly extorted his victims by threatening to expose their intimate videos to family members and others if they did not comply with his demands for more material.
The complaint reveals that this was part of a larger network known as ‘764’, an online group of nihilistic violent extremists targeting children for sexual exploitation. The group aims to create social unrest and bring down the current world order, primarily through acts of chaos and destruction.
Agents discovered child pornography videos and photographs during their search of Kim’s residence. Evidence also indicates that he shared such material with others, taking pride in his actions by calling himself an ‘og’. He operated under online aliases including ‘Ryzen’ and ‘Lobster’, and the FBI believes there may be more victims.
Victims or anyone with information regarding Kim are encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. A conviction on these charges could see Kim sentenced up to 20 years in federal prison.
The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, with support from the Los Angeles Police Department and the Downey Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney David T. Ryan is prosecuting the case.
