OXFORD, MS – Sydney Briggs, a 29-year-old resident of Iuka, Mississippi, was handed down a sentence of over eight years in prison today for possessing child sexual abuse materials. Court documents revealed that Briggs had been uploading child pornography on a popular mobile application since October 2023.
The investigation into Briggs’ activities uncovered over 19,000 images and videos on his electronic devices, with many depicting infants and toddlers being violently sexually abused. In addition to the prison term of 97 months, Briggs was sentenced to five years of supervised release and mandatory sex offender registration upon his release.
Judge Michael P. Mills awarded $28,000 in restitution to eight victims who sought compensation for Briggs’ actions. U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner called Briggs’ crimes ‘absolutely horrific,’ emphasizing that there is no mitigation for such heinous acts.
Attorney General Lynn Fitch expressed gratitude to the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their collaboration in securing the sentence, highlighting the importance of citizen reporting in successful prosecutions like this one. Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff emphasized the FBI’s commitment to protecting children and holding predators accountable, regardless of technological shielding.
The case was investigated by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Parker S. King prosecuting it under Project Safe Childhood. This initiative aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse through federal, state, and local cooperation.
