SHOCKING ABUSE CASE: A Bullhead, South Dakota man has been slapped with federal charges for child abuse and assault with a dangerous weapon. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Rex Harrison, 52, stands accused of a brutal attack on minor children under the age of 18.
Harrison was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 14, 2019, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on May 29, 2019, where he pled not guilty to the serious allegations.
The potential penalties are severe, with Harrison facing up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. He could also be sentenced to three years of supervised release and have to pay restitution to victims.
The Indictment alleges that on April 4, 2019, Harrison subjected minors to abuse, including torture, cruelty, and exposure. He is also accused of assaulting another individual with a tire iron and intentionally causing bodily harm using a vehicle.
Despite the serious charges, Harrison is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The investigation into this case is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirsten Jasper handling the prosecution.
Harrison was released on bond pending trial, and no trial date has been set as of yet.
