Junior Elixon Burgos-Lara, Illegal Re-entry, Louisiana 2025

New Orleans, LA – In a stunning turn of events, Honduran national JUNIOR ELIXON BURGOS-LARA, 28, has been charged with illegal re-entry into the United States after being deported. Burgos-Lara was found in St. Tammany Parish on May 21, 2025, having been previously removed to Honduras on November 27, 2018.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the charges on June 26, 2025. If convicted, Burgos-Lara could face up to two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Simpson emphasized that an indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating Burgos-Lara’s case. Special Assistant United States Attorney Frederick W. Veters Jr., overseeing the prosecution, is a member of the General Crimes Unit.

Burgos-Lara’s charges are a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal immigration and the importance of enforcing existing deportation orders. As Operation Take Back America continues to streamline resources and efforts, it underscores the Department of Justice’s commitment to securing our borders and protecting American citizens.
