NEWARK, N.J. – A Burlington County man has confessed to a depraved act: possessing images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. Dennis Nerolich, 68, of Burlington, formerly of New Egypt, New Jersey, pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti, admitting to the horrifying crime.
According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, Nerolich knowingly possessed this disturbing material between March 2016 and May 1, 2018. The source of this filth? His own roommate and landlord, Frank Maile. This wasn’t a random download; it was a deliberate acceptance of child exploitation.
Maile, already facing serious consequences, pleaded guilty on September 6, 2023, to Count Four of a five-count indictment. His charges are even more grotesque: traveling in foreign commerce and engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor, commercial sex acts, and the production of child pornography. Maile is set to be sentenced on June 27, 2024 – a date that will hopefully bring some measure of justice for the victims.
This case highlights the dark underbelly of our communities and the predators who lurk within. Nerolich’s actions weren’t isolated. He actively participated in a network of abuse, receiving and harboring material that inflicts unimaginable harm on vulnerable children. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and expose those who prey on the innocent.
Nerolich now faces a statutory maximum of 10 years in federal prison and a hefty $250,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for November 6, 2024. This is a small comfort, but it’s a start. The hope is that a lengthy sentence will prevent him from ever harming another child.
The investigation was led by the dedicated special agents of Homeland Security Investigations Newark, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge William S. Walker. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elisa T. Wiygul of the Criminal Division in Camden is prosecuting the case, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. The Grimy Times commends their work in bringing this case to light.
