Byron Jamal Watson, Bank Robbery, Louisiana 2021

In a brazen display of thievery, Byron Jamal Watson, 32, a New Orleans resident, pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery in federal court.

The crimes were committed on September 10, 2019, and September 26, 2019, when Watson and an accomplice robbed the Total Choice Federal Credit Union in LaPlace, Louisiana, obtaining approximately $7,000, and the Fidelity Bank in Jefferson, Louisiana, obtaining approximately $6,000.

Watson’s actions have earned him a maximum of 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee for each count. Sentencing is scheduled for July 20, 2021.

The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans, who praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crime Task Force, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Saint John Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri is handling the prosecution of Watson, who will face the consequences of his actions in the coming months.
