Luis Banuelos, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Oregon 2021

EUGENE, Ore. — The grim reaper of the streets, Luis Banuelos, has been met with a fate as severe as his crimes. The Lynwood, California native was locked away Monday, sentenced to a14-year federal prison term for masterminding the shipment of 11 pounds of pure evil—the drug methamphetamine—into Oregon.

Banuelos, 34, is now facing 168 months behind bars and five years of supervised release. His reign of terror over the Beaver State’s streets officially ended on February 28, 2021, when he was apprehended by the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team. Banuelos wasn’t just a drug courier; he was a facilitator, a distributor, a trafficker who admitted to transporting drugs across state lines an astonishing seven times.

On that fateful day, officers found two boxes in Banuelos’s ride, filled with the poison they were after. The evidence was overwhelming—11 pounds of pure, dangerous methamphetamine, destined for distribution in Prineville, Oregon. Under interrogation, Banuelos had no choice but to own up to his transgressions.

Banuelos’s legal saga took another turn on August 4, 2022, when he was formally charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Just two months later, on October 31, he pleaded guilty, acknowledging the gravity of his actions.

The CODE team and the Drug Enforcement Agency were the architects of this case’s downfall, meticulous in their investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Delph was the one who prosecuted Banuelos with unwavering determination.

This sentence serves as a stark reminder that Oregon will not tolerate drug trafficking on its soil. Banuelos’s sentence is a testament to the justice system’s ability to mete out punishment to those who would profit from spreading death and destruction.
