GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A 45-year-old Calaveras County resident has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for using the internet and cellphones to issue terrifying threats. Cedar Sky Montgomery was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
The court documents detail a series of chilling messages sent by Montgomery. In one incident, he threatened to kill a victim and their family in graphic detail, while another message vowed to ‘kill as many members of your family as I can find!’ He also made explicit threats against a third victim’s throat and property.
Montgomery didn’t stop there; from November 2023 through January 2024, he bombarded a fourth victim with hundreds of unwanted messages, including obscene cartoons, threatening to harm the victim’s loved ones. He even sent images depicting violence against a man’s throat.
This case was a result of an investigation led by the FBI in Stockton, Los Angeles, and Washington, with support from the U.S. Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella handled the prosecution.
Montgomery’s actions have once again highlighted the dangers posed by individuals using digital platforms to disseminate violent threats. His sentence serves as a stern reminder of the consequences for those who choose to terrorize others online.
