Philippi Man Admits to Firearms Charge
In a shocking turn of events, Caleb Andrew Beverly, a 23-year-old resident of Philippi, West Virginia, has admitted to unlawful possession of a firearm. According to United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld, Beverly pleaded guilty to the charge in a Barbour County court.
The incident occurred in November 2020, when Beverly was found in possession of two .25 caliber semi-automatic pistols. As a person prohibited from having firearms, Beverly’s actions are a clear violation of the law.
As part of his plea agreement, Beverly has agreed to forfeit a number of firearms and ammunition. These include a High Point, model 4595, .45 caliber rifle, an Arms Corporation of the Philippines (Armscorp), model 16, .22 caliber rifle, 152 rounds of assorted ammunition, a Raven Arms, model MP-25, .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, a Sundance Industries, Inc., model BOA, .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and assorted firearm parts.
Beverly now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s prior criminal history.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the West Virginia State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the hearing. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of following the law and the consequences of violating it.
