A 31-year-old California man has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for violating federal narcotics laws.
Pedro Vazquez, 31, of California, was sentenced on April 25, 2024, for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine (Count 1) and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine (Count 2), in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 846 respectively.
Vazquez was sentenced by Chief Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown, on each count, to 48 months imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and a $200 mandatory special assessment fee. All sentences are to run concurrently with each other.
The investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed that Vazquez conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Additionally, Vazquez drove to Metairie, Louisiana to conduct a narcotics transaction that involved a quantity of methamphetamine.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit. This case is a prime example of the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
The harsh sentence handed down to Vazquez is a warning to those involved in narcotics trafficking: the consequences of getting caught are severe and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
As the nation grapples with the opioid epidemic, cases like Vazquez’s serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine trafficking on communities.
The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies in combating narcotics trafficking.
