California Woman Sentenced for Marijuana Conspiracy
BUFFALO, N.Y. – A California woman has been sentenced for her role in a marijuana trafficking conspiracy.
Myra Hight, 52, of Lake Tahoe, California, was sentenced to time served and three years supervised release by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny after being convicted of marijuana conspiracy.
Hight was arrested on February 20, 2012, by Hamburg Police in the parking lot of a store in the Town of Hamburg. During a search of the car Hight was driving, officers recovered $77,000 in U.S. currency, which she admitted was proceeds of her marijuana trafficking conspiracy.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John M. Alsup, who handled the case, stated that the defendant was arrested with a large sum of money, which she claimed was the result of her illicit activities.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the Hamburg Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Williams and the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.
Hight’s arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat marijuana trafficking in Western New York.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. praised the efforts of the Hamburg Police and DEA for their work in bringing Hight to justice.
